Might be able pin it down more if we have the equipment numbers. Sounds like you looking at new equipment maybe.

Generac had their own engines until they were sold to Briggs and Stratton a few years ago. Now they have Briggs engines on their equipment.

Briggs is located in Waukesha WI but I'll bet the engine came from one of their plants in China.

Generac Corp.is not. nor have they ever been owned by Briggs and Stratton. Generac sold their portable division in 1998 which was acquire
through a middleman by Briggs and Stratton. Briggs then marketed the Generac portable series. After the "non compete" agreement expired
Generac hopped back in the portable business in 2009 I think.
It was confusing during the sale and when Generac jumped back into the portable business. One could find Generac generators and Briggs OPP
generators both carring the Generac label.
Generac claims to build their own air cooled engines in Wisconsin. I have spoken to people that work there and they claim it is true however I
have no first hand knowledge. The Generac engine will be something like GT410, GT760 and GT990 .

Yup . it is like the confusion with Ryobi and Ridgid, too - We get calls from people with ryobi branded stuff like electric carving knife that was never built by the ryobi we get parts for - or people wanting parts for a ridgid pipe threader.. or ryobi machines that were built by the original Ryobi (IDC/Ryan) or by MTD - you have to identify which company built the machine to be able to even begin to look up parts or explain which model number you need. It sucks.. truly .. which is one of the reasons that we ask for MODEL AND SERIAL numbers of both the engine (where available) and the MACHINE - because sometimes that makes all the difference.

Thanks for correcting me I didn't know Generac went back into producing the portables. I did more research after your post for info on Generac and found a Wiki document that verified what you posted except they got back into it in 2008.

Just more confusion us to deal with especially with the use of the same name by both companies. For me this is just as bad as when all the bank mergers was going on in the early 1990's. As soon as I got one set of company records and equipment updated they change again; requiring more paperwork and equipment engravings changes. Made good money doing it but I had a lot headaches too.

196cc and 212cc enignes. the 212cc is on the 3100 psi - Model 006024-2 washer. i have found a generac page about the washer and it say manufacturer, generac. just curious, they look like a b&s?, no country of origin anywhere. thanks for the replies, maybe one of these days some more info will come out. the link is this one if anyone interested.

In this case this is a new unit so it would be a Generac engine. Looked at the head gasket and it doesn't look like anything I ever seen on a Briggs engine.
