Briggs 204412 0156e2 no spark

Postby stienut13 » Sun Mar 16, 2014 11:15 am

Hi all. Above engine is in a Coleman Powermate 6250 watt genny. My friend says it was running fine 2 weeks ago the sputtered to a stop. He got it restarted a couple of times, but only for a few seconds, now no joy :(
I used all three of my spark testers, no spark. Cleaned flywheel, magnets are good, gapped coil, disconnected kill wire on mag, disconnected low oil sensor wire, have 4800 ohms thru hi tension lead to kill tab and laminations. Still no spark.
Certainly seems like a bad coil to me. Did I miss anything?

Thanks,

Jim :usa:

I don't mean to sound dumb here but I haven't used any of the spark testers that is out there and I also don't what types you have either.

If the high voltage lead doesn't produce a spark when trying to get it to arc to ground without the plug inline then most likely you have a bad coil trigger circuit and most coils these circuits are encased in the coil assembly itself. If are able to get a spark this way then the plug has failed or there simply not enough voltage to jump the gap. So I would try a known good plug first and if this resolved the problem then replace the coil assembly.

Thanks,

I figured it 's bad, just wanted to know if I missed a diagnostic step. Don't think I did, but wanted to ask.
Had to replace a coil on a Husqvarna blower two years ago, still running strong.
Anyway, any one have experience with after market coils on flea-bay, like Pantano and Everest?

Thanks,

Jim
