Honda GC160 Pressure Washer

Postby Pujo » Wed Mar 26, 2014 2:27 pm

Hello group.
I have a Honda pressure washer that will run fine for the first 5 minutes, then shut down.
Usually I can start it right back up, but not practical while working.
I recently replaced the carb with a NEW Honda carb thinking that would fix the problem but it didn't.
I haven't done anything else. Oh, while it is running, it seems to work just fine......until......
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Pujo

Does it shut down while you're spraying, or right after you release the trigger, does it labor and die?

First try loosening the gas cap and see if the problem goes away as it may be a plugged tank vent.

Pujo,
In addition, update your profile to display your LOCATION. Local climate/weather condition can vary (sometimes significantly) around the nation/world and could be helpful to members in diagnosing the problem.

I tried the gas cap thing, but no go.
The unit shuts down while spraying. It does labor just a bit when I let the trigger go, but catches up easily.
It's only when it gets hot that it shuts down.
Thanks

Check for spark when it shuts down - does it restart right away?

Try a new plug, but sounds like maybe a ignition issue, low oil sensor, possibly a hanging valve.. But... Could be the oil alert diode failing when hot.

make sure it is full on oil, and then disconnect the oil alert from the shut-off (but make sure the switch is hooked up to the wire from coil)

See if that does it - There's 2 parts to it - the little square oil alert box (contains a delay circuit) and the oil level sensor itself if it then does not shut down, you've found the issue, most likely need the oil alert diode (the little square box bolted to side of engine) , or the oil level sensor (contaminated with metal from worn engine, lack of oil changes, or just plain shorted out)

All the above is a moot point if there's no oil alert - Again we need your numbers (model-serial-type engraved in the block) to really identify which engine it is

Even the best gets bit by this one sometimes. Even new plugs right of the box gives us trouble sometimes.

Have a good day of cleaning.
