Best Ultrasonic Cleaner and solution

Postby Pete in Milton » Fri Mar 28, 2014 7:26 am

Hi Pete here from Milton Ontario Canada and I am looking for the best bang for my buck in an ultrasonic cleaner, Currently I am looking at the HF heated 2.5L but I have heard that they do not last??? I am planning a trip to the US soon and want to purchase it and bring it back when I return, they don't seem to be readily available in Canada. I am also looking for the most effective cleaning solution. I certainly value the knowledge and experience of the members of this forum!
I know that this subject has been dealt with before but my search of the archives turned up only 5 references. I should ad that if the trip to the US doesn't happen is there a supplier in Canada? Google offers me nothing!
Thanks
Pete

I have the DTI 2.5L model that I bought about 5 years ago. It is still going strong. It's all metal, so no plastic to deal with and it is large enough to fit every carburetor I have had to clean. I also use the DTI cleaning solution. I figure they designed their ultrasonic cleaner, I might as well use the cleaner they designed for it. I know many on here use their own cleaning solutions. I have tried a good bit of them and kept coming back to the dti solution. It's expensive, but you'll only buy it once.

Pete,
Ditto what Parkinlube posted for both the brand and cleaning solution. We have had one for almost 4 years now and it is still going strong. This HF unit has proven to be extremely useful and we were able to get carbs operational again that we previously could not using "conventional" carb cleaning methods. Be advised that this is in a "home" shop environment, however. If you are a professional tech and doing lots of carbs every day you would need most likely need a higher quality unit.

Please forgive my computer challenged mind question...
Why couldn't the "Sticky" simply be the link that Travis posted? That way anybody interested could search around all of the previous discussion threads.

Hello Pete
I looked for a few months before probably spending too much on my ultrasonic cleaner.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DSA200SE-GL2-14 ... 461d270613
But I wanted all the options with the unit, What do you want out of it? I wanted the larger unit so if I had to clean something larger than a carb I could. I also feel buy once and take care of it!!! A good friend has a HF unit and he rotates the carb in the unit. I soak mine for a few hours at 170 degrees . My unit takes a little time to heat up, but still glad I bought it!!!
The solution is DTI 201 solution recommended by another member on our forum, sorry I do not remember who, but I do feel it is real good solution and that is what I use.

It could be, but - no telling how long the old perr forum / website will continue to be up - I do believe Bruce said something about completely removing or deleting the forums and/or software (The software will have to be kept updated and maintained, even if it is never used.) - So the best case scenario is someone with time on their hands might pull together a researched, informative post (or hell, even an article to go on the main site, perhaps even with their amazon affiliate links to a selection of cleaners and solution, etc. - preferably no affiliate links/ads in forums, but it's fine in "permanent" articles on the "Main Site" ... )

Eventually I will, if no one else ever does - at some point in time.. could be in a month , could take me 3 years to get around to it. LOL! So, be it a sticky or a "front site" article, perhaps someone will find time to write something up..

"I soak mine for a few HOURS..."
That seems like an extraordinary (and unnecessary)amount of time for ultrasonic cleaning of a carb. :o In my experiences it takes about 1/2 hour MAX.
