Yard machine rear tine tiller transmission question

Postby Mopar4u » Sun Jun 01, 2014 6:50 pm

Model wer500

Was given this tiller with a blown engine. Got the engine fixed. Was able to get the tines and wheels going but the problem is when shifting gears the shifter doesn't stop at any of the designated gears, no resistance, no detent. Makes it hard to get it into the gear you want but was you do it works. Not sure where to start or what to look for. Any ideas?

This is the manual to my tiller

Got Maxxim is the shop now that has that transmission. Glad it just engine troubles.

Your for some work here. Your going to need remove the engine, handles, tines and wheels for you must take the transmission apart to get the shift detent assembly. To me this going a take some time get as it is quite involved.

Page 23 items 10 and 11 are probably rusted up and you may need replace item 16 too as it may have a groove worn into it where the steel ball rides. Item 3 is a cork gasket so it will need replacing. Item 44 will probably be bad or get damage as you part the case apart. You need make sure wheel and tine shafts as free of rust as possible so the case can slipped apart easily. Be carefully not lose either one of item 9 (there is two of these). If it is like the last two I took apart the grease may need replacing as water may also be in the transmission.
