toro ccr 2450 carb issue

Toro CCR single stage snow thrower. M:38515 S:220020530. friend said it leaked gas on floor and thinks its the tank. inspect tank, no cracks. fill tank no leaking. replaced fuel lines and cleaned carb since cowling is off. plastic carb with brass inlet seat. needle has rubber tip. float is cork.
carb looked in good condition....little varnish but cleaned up well. needle looked good adjusted float to level and put it all back together. After about 5 minutes fuel was dripping on ground, coming from the air intake opening. went through and cleaned carb again, same result. even though needle appeared ok I am going to order a new one and try that. Anything else I should be looking at. oh the primer bulb was brittle in pieces, not sure if that has impact but don't think it should matter. it does start fine and run good.

I haven't personally seen any of these carburetors with the cork; just heard of them.

Do you any way of pressure testing the carburetor? If so with carburetor inverted test for leaking around seat or needle seating area using some liquid and air. If no leaks are found it may be a bad float.

Others here that have experience with these carburetors may chime in with other ideas.

I was able to get it running and NOT leaking fuel. I purchased a needle and it came in a kit with the brass thread in seat. Same problem as before so pulled carb again, reviewed carb manual and found a setting for the float. Made that adjustment and all is good. To the naked eye it sure did not look that far off.

I do not have anything to pressure test the carb and don't know how.....but interested in learning for future. Is their a "factory" tool to purchase or is this something you are able to put together with parts around the garage??

I don't know what others have been using but the following has discussed in the past on the old forum. You need to be looking at a dual purpose version as most are just a vacuum pump. The Mityvac Silverline Elite Hand Pump MV8510 is one of the one that is a vacuum/pressure pump. This will allow to do both vacuum and pressure tests on crankcases too.

You can also make one using a pressure bulb from manual blood pressure tester along a hose, fittings, and a pressure gauge but from I see on prices the Mityvac is only a little more and it has most of the fittings along with a complete tester.

Note on carburetors you only a few pounds; something around 3-5 pounds for leaks but will go a little higher when doing the needle pop off tests.
