Ok then, explain to me what gives them that turboprop whoosh sound. They sound wonderful. :)

I may be wrong but I think I was told my Cub Recon has a blade tip speed of around 16,000 fpm. Anyway it sounds like a jet, I always wear earmuffs, not just for the engine noise but for the blades.

I can hear it all the way at the back of the farm when my wife is mowing and that is about a mile back. I read that commercial fabricated decks are allowed to have much faster blade speed than the stamped out sheet metal ones.

Commercial mower, higher blade tip-speed. Residential mower, lower blade tip-speed.
