need tecumseh starter brush spring

Postby 38racing » Fri Jan 23, 2015 7:48 pm

I have a 33519 120V tecumseh starter that might work. It is missing one of the small springs that tensions the brush. It is not the 1/4" that pushes the brush in(between brush and holder) but rather a 1/8" that wraps around the holder in a slot. Any idea where I might get one other than another 33519 starter?

got any electric motor or starter-generator repair shops in your area? Maybe appliance repair shop (washer/dryer motors, furnace motors, etc..?) Might find something usable there..

But other than that, I have yet to see any service kits available for 120v starters - I think I know the kind of spring you mean, and I have seen them before in various types of electric motors, but wouldn't have a clue otherwise where to find JUST a spring..

Actually found a spring that almost works. was longer but I cut it. Seems just slightly too large diameter. I could probably dremel the slot a bit wider in the holder . Right now have dead spot but not sure if it's the brush causing it. Going check the armature with a ohmmeter first.
