I can understand for a push mower. I've got a reel mower from the early 50s with a Briggs model 6S which is cast iron and the whole mower frame is cast iron, thank god for self propelled

Requires different sand castings molds, liners, and machining for cast iron surfaces. The liner is most times installed in the mold and the liquid aluminum is poured in the casting mold around the liner making the liner non removable. On larger engines these liner can be removable but requires a different casting process.

And you got to have whole different production line just for the liners or out source them which is where most of the additional costs would come from.
