Carb issues?

Honda EB2200X generator starts with choke on but immediately dies. Wait 30 seconds and same thing, starts then dies. Won't start at all unless choked. Removed carb, cleaned and inspected for any obvious blockage, reassembled and got same results.

sounds like a plugged fuel filter - some of them have a filter in the tank you have to pull off fuel line from tank and pull filter out to check it. could be gunk plugging tank outlet too

Yeah I thought that might be the problem so I did that. When I pull the fuel line from the carb I am getting a steady flow of fuel. I thought it might be a bad gasket sucking air but they are all in good condition. Just inspected the float and no issues there either.

Try disconnecting the low oil sensor. It might giving trouble.

Thanks that was something that hadn't occurred to me, unfortunately I got the same results with it disconnected.

EB2200X with GX140 series engine.

Although the parts diagram doesn't show a carburetor with a built-in fuel strainer does it have a fuel shut off built-in? If so it might need cleaning if you haven't cleaned it.

Also how did you go about cleaning the carburetor? Was you just using a spray cleaner? I see where you said disassemble it and cleaned just wondering if you removed the main jet and the nozzle during the cleaning. If not that might where the problem lays.

Also have a squirt can of fuel and try putting a little as it dies to see if it picks back up until it burnt up. This help determine if you have a fuel problem or an ignition problem. If the squirted fuel doesn't help then you have an ignition problem but if picks back up for a moment then you a fuel related issue and got to keep digging until you find it.

Bobodu was right about it being a plugged up jet. The main jet was so plugged up it took me twenty minutes to dig it out using a small piece of wire. Surprising how good they run when they can actually get fuel into the cylinder. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

That spray cleaner don't usually work dirty clogged up carburetors. It usually takes either dip cleaner (we are getting away from as it has hazardous chemicals) or the use of an ultrasonic cleaner to get these carburetor cleaned. The ultrasonic cleaners soaps still a little hazardous after cleaning but no where as bad as dip cleaning solution.

Care you please explain that statement? (What type of cleaning solution are YOU using?)
