Mclane Reel Pulsa Jet Carb with pics

Postby jimmyfingers » Sun Apr 06, 2014 9:07 pm

I posted here in NOV under the name of BobbyFlay about my problems with a carb, but it looks like the admin has archived the posts. We came to the conclusion that some of my parts with swtiched out bc they did not match up with the engine number. You guys were super helpful. I assume this is what I need http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038U3HLI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=s601000020-20

I finally got the carb and gas tank off. I am looking to buy a carb overhaul kit, but need to know which one to buy. I have the carb soaking in gas right now. The gas tank was surprisingly clean and no rust.

I would not waste money on a kit (if there even is one) - all you need is the diaphragm (assuming you still have spring and spring cap) and gas tank gaskets (two) and carb gaskets (two, unless you have the newer double-thick one) - may want a filter screen on the main pickup (the cast portion that sticks down in tank)

All the gaskets were either torn, or I messed them up trying to get them off. I don't mind spending the money on a new kit

There is no 'kit' available, all you need is the pump diaphragm and power valve kit long with the carb to tank gasket. IMO soaking in gasoline is a waste of time, it won't dissolve old gas, and downright dangerous. Clean the screen with a brush and ensure the passages behind the jet are clear. A tag wire works well for this..

The carburetor isn't much more than a gasket kit.

Briggs 494624 Carburetor Kit (based on tank and diaphragm gaskets)
or Oregon Oregon 49-078 (contains several versions of tank and intake gaskets)

Not in kit and needed to order separate if lost:
Briggs 221377 DIAPHRAGM SPRING CAP
Briggs 262328 Diaphragm Spring

Wasn't original equip with the filter screen as BGS mentions.
But the part number for the carburetor screen is 691213.

There is NO "power valve" in yer carb! This should help ya: http://outdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/bri ... _fixed.asp

There is no screen used on the jet "jet tower" on those carbs ,either. I don't think the screen used on the plastic carbs would work, either.

The part number I quoted is from the Pulsa Jet Carburetor on the 094202-0115-E1 which is the same basic carburetor design. These screens really should have been used on these carburetors as the metal gas tanks tend rust quite bit on older models.

Deere2me,

Yes. I changed my post previous post. If someone had posted before I change it I would made a second post. Maybe you posted shortly after I made the change. I only as I did it after I had a tiller that came with the engine that had that part number listed in the IPL.

And for your info the carburetor screen from the plastic carburetor won't work as you thought for they are too small in diameter. Matter of fact I have on order 5 of these larger screens for later used here.
