:) When the engine stalls, open the fuel bowl drain and see if there is fuel coming out. :usa:

You may have a bad ignition module, even if you see spark happening does not mean its good enough to make the plug fire. If you have not done so yet, change the spark plug re test. If the engine still quits, I would say change the ignition module due to it not supplying "enough" energy to the plug. A flash tube spark checker is not always definitive. I have one of these: http://www.gtc.ca/EN/TA100_EN.html it registers the amount of energy going to the plug which is a very nice feature. You have eliminated everything else so the ignition module seems a logical failure.

Did anybody ever get to the bottom of this problem?
I have the same STONE vibrating plate tamper (honda gx160 engine) with the same exact problem. I disconnected both the switch and the oil pressure switch with no luck. I have replaced the carburetor 2 times with new carbs, no effect. It runs great at idle but stalls after 20-30 seconds of full speed operation. This acts like it is running out of gas. I get a lean backfire and everything. If I reach down and engage the choke before it dies completely it will operate for a few more seconds. I even cut the screen end off the fuel tank filter, no luck. Drilled vent holes in the gas cap, no luck. Swapped out gas line with next size larger, required using some hose clamps to keep it from leaking. No luck!
I have one stupid thought left. When I first had the problem I rebuilt the carburetor, on line rebuild kit. I don't recall if it had a copper float originally, but it has a plastic one now. I wonder if a copper float would be heaver and smaller and pull the needle valve out further, faster and thus supply a more consistent fuel supply?
This is killing me! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :bricks:

This is not a fuel problem. You have established that by spending money on carbs with the same result. Put a new coil and a new plug on it. Aftermarket coils on eBay are extremely cheap. I'm betting the vibration is killing them.

Thanks to HondaG100! Your firm kick in the pants was just what I needed.
I kept looking at the problem and seeing a carburetor problem when it was a spark problem all along.
I replaced the coil and the spark plug and the STONE vibrating plate tamper runs like a clock.
Thanks again for your help. :usa:

No one has mentioned valve clearances but can't see why it should be!
Edit
Whoops, sorry , didn't see that you've solved it!
