Just less confusing to just use a commercially available reversing switch but the same thing can be achieved using a (ON) OFF (ON) DPDT and criss - cross wiring. Its just the commercial switch doesn't need six spades when only four is required.

Now it does need to wired up as shown or you might see smoke.
