Huh? its an OHV engine - the oil will be on the valve spring side of things... moving the seal to where they put it now, it makes sense to me that the lubrication of the guide will be far better.

OP's mention of the smoke all the time makes me wonder if maybe they didnt have a slightly blown or damaged head gasket (combustion blow by) or damaged breather - the thread didn't continue much further that I can see in that direction - could be it was passing oil out breather and into intake.. Hence your "last word" post (before thread was resurrected) would have been the proper way to go...

Overlook that. :oops: It should dawn me that it was ohv engine. That's what I get for having a migraine headache for the last week...then it does makes sense now. Thanks Brian.
