Thanks. I did try with smaller photos that were 600 pixels on the long side, still didn't work. These are 400px wide and will show up.

My throttle control:

Parts manual throttle contol, of which there are a couple variations:

My pilot valve:

So I figured out why nothing on the parts diagram looked familiar. I have a different style throttle control on my setup. Mine has a piston which shoot out and pushes an arm (a long hex head bolt) attached to the throttle lever; the style that I am finding in part manuals as matching my model compressor attaches right to the throttle lever. The only parts that I can find that look similar are for the models with the large engines, 8 HP and 11-13 HP.

Anyway, if anyone knows if my pilot valve is acting normally or not, that when I release air from it, the piston shoots out on the throttle control, that would help a lot. The throttle control pistol isn't frozen and moves freely. Thanks again.

I wondering what has happen since you started working on this compressor. First it was only dying when it nearly full or full tank pressure. Now it sounds like it won't even staying running long enough to fill the tank.

As you pull the lever you doing the same thing if you had a electric pressure relay which is a forced idle mode except with electric relay it turn off the electric motor. It sound like that the throttle control unit is working okay. It still can be the pilot valve that refusing to switch between full throttle and idle positions on it own.

I think for now you need to focus on getting the engine to stay running. With that in mind just remove the drive belt(s) for the compressor so you won't run the risk of blowing the tank up and see if you can get the engine to stay running. This is would be a divide and conquer method which will help narrow down the problem area.

I think what I am going to do it pull the pilot valve out to clean it, while also trying to get the motor running properly. Apparently they're prone to get clogged with dirt and won't allow the tank to reach the proper pressure. This compressor was poorly treated by the previous owner, and I took it to get serviced and I don't think the shop did all that great of a job. The compressor oil was really milky and was overfilled, so I replaced it with the correct amount of new oil. I'll probably let the pump run for a little bit without any back pressure to get the new oil circulating. All this won't happen any time soon though, as it's supposed to get cold again, but I'll update when I have a chance. I appreciate the advice and help.
