Toro CCR 3650 GTS Snow Blower

Postby stephanpitts » Wed Dec 11, 2013 8:54 pm

Hello,

My Toro CCR 3650 GTS (6.5 horse power) snow blower was not shooting off the snow like it used to. I previously replaced the belt and the paddles about 3 years ago. It did not help too much. So I decided to try to clean the carburetor jet. I used a fine wire to poke inside the various holes(horizontally and vertically). I put the jet back in and it after I set the snow blower upright, I could see that the gas was just pouring into the bowl. Did I "whack" a float needle or ??? I am fairly new to this, but I have cleaned a carburetor jet before on a pressure washer and it worked just fine. Thanks for any ideas or tips.

If you would post the 5-digit model number and serial number of your equipment, instead of the generic decal model, you may get more answers, as we would be able to look at the carb involved.

Yes the model number would be beneficial. I believe that unit has the plastic carb, like the lawnboy 2cycle mowers had. Sounds like the needle is not seating. Maybe bad needle, maybe float stuck holding needle from closing to stop fuel flow. Probably need to disassemble the carb and do a thurough cleaning.

jwales,

You are correct in that I finally figured out what the float needle really does. It fell out when I just opened up the bottom of the carb bowl. So I have two issues with the plastic carb(and I did not pay attention):

Which side of the cork float faces upwards into the carb? There are two ways to insert the cork float(one side has two U shaped divots on it)

As far the needle, it comes with a weird clip, I am having trouble figuring out how to clip it in correctly(and yes, I am a bit dyslexic). ;)
The model number is 38440. Thanks in advance.

Here is a link WITH pictures to help you understand the inner workings of the carb you have. I hope this helps.

The link grunt sent should answer your questions. The "divits"should face "up" or towards the carb body. The clip that attahes to the needle should slide onto the brass tab attached to the float. I beleive the "open side" of the clip should point towards the choke.

jwales,

The link was just the right setup for me. One picture(s) is worth a thousand words to me. Thanks and I was able to put everything back together. And I got the snowblower to start up. The good news is that it runs like before, and the bad news is that it runs like before. I was hoping by cleaning the carb that it would throw out the snow like it used to. It is throwing snow about maybe 6 feet if that. It used to throw out snow about 15 - 20 feet or so. I replaced the belt a while back and the paddles before that. It has to be that the speed of the paddles has slowed down or ?

Just a thought...I would first make sure the engine is running at the governed top speed of 4000 RPM if not then you wound need find out why it can't get there. And then you worry about troubleshooting the impeller drive system for faults if the engine is running at full speed.

I am wondering if your running rpm's have fallen off. With one-stage blowers, the distance snow is thrown is directly related to engine rpm's..see if you can kick up the throttle a bit. Make sure your throttle is opening all the way and that your choke is also open. MH
