Honda EX5500 - Getting to the Governor?

Postby Multi_Mech » Tue Mar 18, 2014 10:43 pm

I have a EX5500 that has a bad governor. It looks like if I could get to the back of the engine it would be pretty straightforward to remove the cover but I don't know how to tear into it. I have removed the top covers and the fuel tank and some more covers, and what is buried down in there but more and more covers, then the muffler, etc and there is still some ways to go with no guarantee that I am going in the right way.

Can anyone tell me if this is the way I should be getting at it, and if not, how?

Sounds like going in the right direction. That unit appears to have a GX360 engine. If so the governor parts are obsolete (NLA). You might find them as NOS parts on Ebay.

It would take the serial number to determine which EX5500 you have. There is 6 versions of the unit so the parts might be different.
