Tecumseh Jiffy Ice Auger (old model)

Postby Dale_W » Thu Apr 03, 2014 12:22 pm

HI
This Ice Auger has sat (empty) for close to 20 years. I suspect it is about 40 years old.

The serial number sticker on the side is damaged, but I can read: 735?2??????? ?=no sticker, just scratched metal.
Another sticker still in place tell me it is a 3 hp engine
There is a metal tag near the carb. It has this info:

T-670-05B
Tecumseh
6905854

My son and I filled it with some fresh premix, it started and ran fine. Until we go to the lake that is. It would drill holes, but it lacked both power and speed, and it conked out fairly often too. 20 years ago this thing was an ice drilling beast.

On other ppeten threads I read where the diaphragm and gasket set is #630978. Does this sound right?

I've never had a diaphram carb apart. What do I have to look out for?

Will there be any adjustments I have to make? This does have hi and lo mixture screws.

I should probably buy a new fuel line from tank to carb. The primber bulb and line seem fine. IF there is any air leaks here, would this cause problems?

Thank you

I think is what your looking for the line of part references:

https://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=tecumseh&mn=AV520-670-05B

Provide this is the right engine then you need to get a copy of the TECUMSEH-SERVICE--REPAIR-MANUAL-2-CYCLE-AH520-AH600-AV520-AV600-HSK600-TVS600-Craftsman-200-Series-692508

Thank you both very much. When I google T-670-05B, the search returns AV520-670-05B.

That partstree diagram is very close. The only difference I can see is that is has a float style carb, and the primer button in mounted on the engine cover.

I suspect this may be as close as I am going to get.

That service manual is awesome. Very very good detail on the diaphram carb. I am looking forward to getting this old beast running great again!

Thank you again

Strange when I enter the TEC-631720 engine number at Partstree it came up and list the TEC-631720 carburetor which when I followed the link it is a diaphragm carburetor.

In that case, you are not looking at the right diagram.

http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=tecu ... 670-05B-EN clearly shows a diaphragm carburetor

Parts breakdown of that carburetor here: http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=tecu ... 1631720-CA

Man, some days I should just stay in bed and stay away from the PC.

You are correct, the diagram does show the diaphram carburetor.

Above that diaphram carb, they picture the float style, and for some reason I was thinking THAT was the carb.

Thanks for pointing that out.

You might wanna take a look at the condition of the reed valves also, on something thats been sitting that long.
