Lx176 axle seals

Postby Earlybird » Fri Apr 04, 2014 1:35 pm

I am going to be tackling a John Deere LX176 rider tomorrow for leaking axle seals. model number I was given was
MOL176X054414 with a Kawasaki eng. number FC420VAS10.
This is NOT a 5 spd man. trans.. Any tips on changing the seals. The plan is to remove the drive axle assm and split far enough apart to pull seals. I have not seen it yet, but was told the seals are recessed about a 1/4 inch. I dont know if my automotive eng. cam seal puller will work to remove the seals with out splitting the case. Any ideas or links to serv. info would be appreciated.
Thanks,

If what I see in the ipl is correct you will need to separate the case. Your probably thinking they are recess inwards but the ipl shows an area cut into the upper and lower case for the seal to sit in.

Yup if your axle seal is leaking you got to split the case.

Thats a 1992 model Deere LX176, seal P/N M119738 Seals are set in a recess in the case as KE4 mentions.
