Wiring problem on a craftsman.

Postby makeemrun » Tue Apr 08, 2014 2:22 pm

here is a brief history. mower came in with a transplanted engine. craftsman model is 917.270514. it was transplanted with a briggs vanguard 28Q777-0155-02. I have a four prong connector that has a a setup like this: blu oran
red black. When I turn key switch to light and on I have power to blue and red wire. I have a red and black wire from stator, red wire to fuel solenoid, and black kill wire. I am hoping you guys have some experience on where these wires run. the key switch is 7 connectors. I cannot find a wiring layout for the craftsman anywhere. thanx again for all your help.

I already seen that but it doesn't tell you which wires hook up to where on the harness. ie. red stator line and black stator line connect where. the connectors are gone from the motor so I don't have ends to match up.

See if this clears things up.

Tractor colors listed first.

Blue = Fuel Solenoid Red wire
Red = Alternator DC = Red wire (Should have a lump (Diode)in the wiring from the alternator)
Orange = Alternator AC (Lights) Black Wire
Black = Coil Kill Black Wire

Wiring color codes can change among model production years - and they can also be incorrect due to previous wiring modifications or alterations. The ONLY proper way to go is to use the wiring schematics and make sure your wires are connected to the right circuits - Wire color codes are an AID, but they should by no means be definitive. Indeed, wire colors can *change* dynamically due to heat exposure, U.V., fuel and oil contamination and more.

I vote with Deere2me on this one - the only definitive way to go is with a wiring schematic.

Look, if you "already seen that " then you would have seen the WIRING DIAGRAM in the owners manual, no? Where do you think Starfire came up with his correct wire cross?
MOST ( not all) owners manuals have wiring diagrams/schematics in them, so it pays to go to the EQUIP. MFG. website to get ya a manual.
You don't need no stinkin' connectors, use the WIRING DIAGRAM, the color codes and common sense. MAKE 'EM RUN !
