noma/murray engine pulley

Postby 38racing » Mon Apr 21, 2014 2:15 pm

I am working on a friend's 12/39, F3912 very common unit. I have 2 others like it. I am just putting the engine pulley back on but there seems to be no key. I notice the outside has an indent as if the shaft is pressed in to make the key protrude from the shaft metal but there is no key inside and there is no slot for a key. I am wondering if any one has seen the key get ripped off this type of pulley. Although the IPL for my other unit shows a separate key part.I am going to pull one from the other machine . Maybe the pulley is not original.

The pressed in "dent" was indeed made to form a "key", it must have sheared off. It happens. I would take a look at the flywheel key also, if ya haven't already.

Turns out not to be the right pulley for the unit. I pulled the one from the other machine. Spacing of belt grooves is even different. It has a stepped ID shaft too, only first inch or so was 1". PO to my friend may have just had it fit tight to engine shaft. Correct pulley is 1" ID full length with full length keyway and separate key and a spacer that goes above it. I expect I can buy a whole used machine for what they want for a new pulley.
