2 stroke carb problem

I have an echo pb 200 blower with zama carb. I got the machine for nothing, which had been sitting for some time and didn't run. I did a plug, fuel,vent and primer lines, fuel and air filter and carb clean / carb kit. She fired up but bogs at high speed. After some research, I think it's starving because I didn't clean the carb thoroughly enough so I took it apart again and cleaned it very thoroughly this time. Dipped it for a bit, blew it out, drowned in carb cleaner for a while, blew it out, ran a bread tie through every little hole I could find, sprayed it again...blew it out, etc. I feel good about it this time and think it's squeaky clean now.

Like a big dummy, during this second cleaning, I forgot to remove the little screen / strainer on the opposing side of the carb to the needle value so as you may have expected, I blew that puppy out into driveway...never to be recovered. This is a tiny little round screen about 1/4 inch wide, if that.

So my question is relatively simple. Is it ok to run the machine for a few minutes without this screen? I know I'll have to replace, which I think means another $15 for a kit but I'd like to make sure I have the thing running well before I sink more $$ into it. I can't imagine that the screen would impact the function but know that it's there for a reason, most likely to protect the carb and engine from tiny gremlins.

First it sounded like all it need was a fuel mixture adjustment.

Dip cleaning a 2C is a big mistake as there are small rubber check valves in it. Also running a bread tie wire though every hole can do a lot more damage than good as can poke out these check valves.

As for the screen filter is okay to leave out during tests but it really should be there catch trash that is the lines sometimes.

Personally with what you have done to the carburetor your looking a new carburetor to get working now.

I appreciate the help. Ill give it a try to see if I screwed the pooch. The good news is, if I need a new carb, it's only about twice the kit from what I can see online. Wondering if it's worth it though at this point.

I actually thought about a carb adjustment but there must be a special tool. There's like a black stud next to a weird red thing. The black stud prevents the red thingy from moving.

Red thingy is a limiter cap that get removed to make the adjustment and put back on prevent users from adjusting the mixture. EPA Requirement. The black is just that a stud put in place of low speed adjustment on some carburetor; non adjustable.

Thanks man. So should I just grab that thing with pliers, pry with a screw driver? How gentle do I need to be when removing the cap?

I use a forked tool that I am made just for prying them up and off. Got to gentle as not the bend the mixture needle. It shouldn't take a lot of force; although, some version are harder to get off than others. The screw driver is probably best option of the two you listed as the pliers will mash and distort the plastic cap making it unless if you try to put it back on.

Well good news. It's running well after adjusting, I'm able to get a good top end out of it. It just takes some time to warm up. I say that respectively as a I already had the same machine in my collection and that one seems to warm up a lot quicker. But unless there's a suggestion regarding, I think I'm going to be plenty happy with the results so far. Thanks for all your help.
