Honda GX100

Postby plpitts1 » Thu Aug 07, 2014 9:13 am

Hello,
I have a Makasa MTX 70 Tamping Rammer with a Honda GX100. When cold it takes 5 pulls consistently to start, after it warms up its first pull every time. This model has no primer, so I’m guessing that 5 pulls is what it takes to get enough fuel to start. I was considering adjusting the valves but was not sure that was needed. I don’t want to fix something that’s not broke.
Thanks,
Pat

I would check that the choke is closing all the way. If it is, then prolly need to clean carb. Some new honda carbs are priced really cheap, so more economical to just replace em'. The new carbs usually result in a one pull start every time!
Be careful with the gaskets and spacer, You should order new mtg gaskets if ya get a new carb.

Check/change your plug? These engines have a belt drive valve train that lives under a valve cover that is sealed with a Honda sealant so be prepared with some Permatex if you check the valves. Not likely your issue though. Deere has it. In small engine work its always the carb.
