This is on a low end Troy Bilt walk behind (11A-A23O711). I ordered a gas cap (was missing). It's a 799585. It won't tighten. It turns, but just stops without being secure. I haven't seen another to compare, but it seems the gas tank threads are damaged. New tank and cap (assembly) - $60!
The whole mower costs what, $150? I already put a blade, blade adapter (cracked), plug, oil change and air filter on it. Also replaced the rope. It was frayed. He may as well buy a new mower if it needs a tank! Need a parts mower, but this is only 2 years old.
The older style tank and cap (Not emissions compliant?) is about $40. A little more palatable.
I guess there will be more perfectly good junk in the land fills.
