Husqvarna yth48V24 low pulling power - new

I have a new Husqvarna YTH48V24 riding lawn mower with automatic drive. The problem is I has very little power to pull small utility trailer with firewood. transmission seems to be slipping inside. Is there an adjustment or is this normal. Reverse is even worse it hardly moves with trailer.

if its brand new, send it back to the dealer - But sounds to me like your tow release (for pushing tractor) is still latched in freewheel position.

the push tractor mechenism is in all the way - maybe problem further in?

Should the wheels spin when under load. I had an old Murry 16 hp which screached and growned when pulling a trailer around the yard but the wheels would spin. The new Huqvarna 24 hp will not spin wheels or grown is just slowly stops moving - is this to protect the transmission?

Again if it is new, and under warranty, take it back to the dealer for warranty repairs ASAP because something ain't right. Could be your belt is not routed right, clutch pedal or brake adjustment, jammed brake, or could be a bad hydro unit - But, you need to stop using it and take it to dealer right away , continued use of a unit in that condition, if there is internal damage under warranty, can cause more damage that could easily be taken as "abuse or neglect"

If you get it fixed under warranty, you don't need our advice here. There's lots of things that can make a hydro do what you describe, but on a brand new machine, most if not all of them are warranty covered, if not caused by the user doing something they shouldn't (And generally, Lawn and Yard tractors are not really built for hauling firewood!)

First it would a YTH24V48 series with Tuff Torq K57R with only 133-188 ft-lbs of torque max. It is not much stronger than the K46 version which has 131-171 ft-lbs. Both of these transmissions do have auto locking differentials which prevents single wheel spin.

The hydrostatic transmission operates very similar your automatic transmission in your car. It is a fluid driven system and any overload beyond normal working range will stall it out. I have tried pulling trailers with AYP models that is loaded the same materials as manual transmission models and there is no comparison; the manual version out performs without question.

Now with that said Brian is right if it is new and under warranty have it checked out by Husqvanra service center or dealer. Tuff Torq do have what seems to be a higher failure than the Hydrogear versions but simply don't have a lot experience with Tuff Torq transmissions here.

Note here you said small utility trailer but didn't the actuall size of the trailer. I use a 17 cu ft trailer and it is all my mowers can pull even of half loaded with firewood or dirt. Any serious work I end up pulling out the JD650 which is a mini tractor for full loads.
