When was the last time the valve lash was checked?

I havent checked it since buying this back in May.

It was a hint.... more than a question, methinks.....

Hmmm...I didn't know that the hydraulic lifter version needed adjusting; I think they were still self adjusting last time I checked.

If the engine is original then it is a Kohler CV674-75544 with Sears and ereplacementparts.com having the parts look-ups.

Good thought...Thinner will help starting in colder weather. These are owner manual recommended weights.
OILTYPE (API-SF-SJ):
SAE 10W30 (ABOVE 32°F)
SAE 5W-30 (BELOW 32°F)
W/FILTER: 4.5PINTS
W/O FILTER: 4.0PINTS

It was just a tought. I know I have forgot to change from 30W to 10W30, and wonder why my CC149 was hard starting (turning slow). There is a lot of engine drag at 0 to 30 degrees with 30W oil. The tractor being a Hydro plays into the factor also.

so is it 10w30 weight (viscosity) you are using or straight 30? Both would be SAE weights (society of automotive engineers)

Actually if you read closer it is 10w30 ie multi-viscosity based on temperature. Their claim is that it replaces SAE30 which is valid but it is not "the same as" sae30.
