jiffy auger problems tecumseh motor

Postby schultzcasey » Wed Jan 22, 2014 7:31 pm

my pull cord broke the other day and after I fixed the cord and rewound the coil it does not pull smooth anymore. its very jerky at the top and bottom of the cycle. I remove the recoil starter and it pulled smooth by itself. I tried to manually turn the flywheel and there was a lot of resistance at two stages of the cycle (top and bottom) when I remove the plug and manually turn the flywheel less resistance (from no compression) but still sticks slightly in same two places. any thoughts. I fixed one thing and another broke. don't get it. unless the reason the cord broke it the first place it because of this problem. a backfire or something???

We need your equipment numbers to help better diagnosis your problem...
If it has an external coil setup the clearance between it and flywheel might be to close causing binding but that is just a guess.

Sounds like you got a busted clutch spring, clutch drags on clutch housing - that or a bad bearing in transmission causing clutch drum to be kinked off to the side and dragging on clutch.

Those jiffy drills are pretty simple, parts not difficult to get.
