Adding Charging circuit to Tecumseh HM-100

I have an old Generac 5500K generator that is powered by a Tecumseh HM-100 engine. Years ago I installed a new flywheel and 12vdc electric start. I have been using a stand alone battery charger to keep the battery charged, however I would like to convert the HM-100 to use a charging circuit as it only has the CDI solid state ignition for spark. I would appreciate any information as to what would be involved in doing this conversion.

You could add a rectifier / regulator to the gen's output to charge the battery or add a solar unit.

I'd plug in the charger when the gen was running....

A charge coil would be added under flywheel so besides the charge coil, wiring and rectifier you may need another new flywheel if the one you have has no magnets on the inside. I like Bobodu's idea.

I like Bobodu's idea as well, it's a simple solution rather then going through the trouble and expense of modifying to a charging circuit.

Adding what I suggested is not hard. You would tie a small transformer to the 120 volt ac, run it through a bridge rectifier from radio shack then through a regulator, could be done for less then $50.00.
