2007 Troybuilt snow blower 5.5 Tecumseh Engine

Postby Rsm369 » Sun Feb 02, 2014 12:53 pm

I just got done cleaning the gas tank and fuel lines and I replaced the old carb with a new one. I can get it started with the electric start , but can not get it running by pull starting it. When blowing snow I have to have it in 2 gear and take my time so it will not stall out. It runs smooth with new carb but it lacks horsepower. A friend told me 5.0 and 5.5 Tecumseh engines had issue with valves and seats after sometime of use the valve do not seal completely and will need a valve job. Is this true? Do I need to have it serviced for a valve job if so how much am I looking at to have this done.

Check the valve clearances, easy on an ohv engine and may make all the difference. Most snow blowers don't see a lot of hours, ok this year is an exception, so valve and seat wear is not likely an issue.

As Roy said, first check/adj the valve clearances, could be too tight.
Once again, the manual can be found at the old forum : http://www.perr.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=8003
