1998 Scotts by Murray Deck Belt help is appreciated

Postby 1998Scotts » Fri May 09, 2014 5:56 pm

I have a 1998 Scotts by Murray with a 15 HP Kohler Command Single OHV. The model number is 42561X8 and the serial is S007132730073. I am needing to locate a deck belt. My deck belt finally got stretched to its limit and wouldn't stay on and it was about to break in a couple of places and need to get a new one. Anyone reccomend any good places online to order parts for lawnmowers. I know I can get one at my local ace but, is there anywhere good online to order riding mower parts. I want to see if I can get it any cheaper. I was told 25.00 for one at my local ace I took the model number in to them. I don't suppose thats bad and probably won't get it any cheaper but, wanted to check first.

For everyone's FYI, it's a 37x88 belt. Locally I get the blue belts from TSC for "around" $20. I would imagine once you tag on shipping from most sources you will be right back up to the local price. A relationship with a local source can prove very handy, especially when you need some info. A good belt should last several years, not familiar with Ace ones though.

Keep that Murray chuggin' :D

Thanks for the info. I am not real riding mower smart but, any Murray deck belt will work as long as its 37x88 correct? I bought this mower used last year in september for 250. The belt was worn out then but, I didn't ever bother to replace it. I will keep that Murray (Scotts) chugging as long as the 15 Horse Kohler Command doesn't give out on me which its still running strong.

That 37x88MA is the part number and yes any Murray belt that is part number 37x88MA as they would all be the same size. The belt size is 1/2" x 89-1/2" and you need to fairly close to that size you may use an 1/4" shorter but I won't go any shorter.

or A M A Z O N - Hard to imagine a dealer that does not have either O.E. or aftermarket "O.E. Spec" belts in stock - seems like everybody's got them. It's a pretty common part number.

for belts you might try A&I online. That belt is 18$ cdn for me but likely much cheaper for you in USA.
