GearSprocket Puller recommendations

I need some help buying a puller for a small socket. The socket is about 2.5 inches in diameter. Any recommendations on brands/links? I see quite a few listed when I search google but most are available for cars. I want to make sure it fits something for a lawnmower. Thanks guys

Gear pullers are hard to pick out exactly what you want. You'll probably do best to take what you're pulling to a store and see if what they have will work. Cheap pullers are just that.
I have several pullers. I'll buy one if I don't know if it'll work or not. It always comes in handy down the road.

Sounds more like you would do better to use a bearing puller/separator and a steering wheel puller or similar. Jaw pullers slip off easily and things like sprockets can be easily damaged by that. I'd go with the bearing separator, which has bolt holes to thread in puller bolts to be used with a steering wheel or similar puller

I'm sure cheaper versions are avail. But what I like about it is the knurled tension wheel, that when ya screw it down, it forces the jaws together and keeps it from slipping off.
The one I have is about 35 years old and still works great!
Fleabay has a bunch, ya wanna look for one that will apply clamping pressure to the jaws. I like that one, definitely pricey but it works well and will last. Don't go to hf or the local hardware store, cheap pullers are frustrating to use and can be hazardous to your health.

Absolutely. 'Course when I bought mine, it wasn't nowhere near that high. Fleabay has a couple, I might even try fer the one I linked to...

The snap-on one I linked to in my previous reply is close, but is a bit different ( no pointed screw end) but the above one is dead on. VERY stout, yet able to do small work also.

Yes. two separate units. The "bearing puller" that you refer to, is sometimes called a bearing separator or bearing splitter, as BG mentioned, ya gotta use an additional puller with it. GOOGLE fer a pic.

Good chit ain't cheap! But, as I said, the better quality stuff tends to last quite a while!

If you do a Fleabay search for "gear puller" it turns up a couple of cheapies that will work for ya, just don't expect em to perform miracles!

the pullers bg and ke4 posted are better for gears, if there is room around gear, these can be had in several sizes to fit under gear, be careful with 2/3 finger pullers as they came damage the teeth or even break the gear off center hub, (if tour trying to save the gear)
