Postby barrentine934_+ » Mon Aug 04, 2014 5:47 pm

Ok guys a friend has a ferris with a kawasaki FX1000V DFI.Thats all the #'s he gave me.The problem is it will run a while and just shut down just like switching key off.Right after it shut down he pulled the plugs and no fire. But after a while it will start again run a few then die.He replaced the electric fuel pump with a vacuum pump but still same problem.could it be a grounding issue or safety switch.Oh yeah its 1 year old.any help is appreciated. Thanks,

If it's only 1 year old it should be covered by the factory warranty. Take it to the dealer and let them figure it out on their dime.

He can take it to ANY shop that is an authorized Kaw. dealer. A lot of different equip. mfg. use Kaw engines, don't have to be a Ferris dlr.

Most common problem with a Kawasaki that I've seen is those with igniter modules failing which would give you a no spark when it gets hot.

I would start by putting the electric fuel pump back on. It's fuel injected and so will be sensitive to fuel pressure. Next, does the MIL light come on when it shuts down? Does he lose spark at both coil packs when it shuts down? Does it continue to have a good crank sensor signal on shutdown? What is the temperature sensor reading at shutdown, does it think it's overheating and therefore shut it down? What's the MAP sensor reading while it's running and when it shuts down? Have you eliminated the actual starter switch itself to see if it's shorting out or killing power to the ECU? This engine has an ECU that controls things like spark, timing, fuel injector timing and duration, etc... It's not something you are going to want to shotgun parts at, that'll get expensive. There is a self-diagnosis that you can run on the ECU by turning the ignition switch on, then off, then on. The MIL will flash some codes, you then have to compare those codes to the troubleshooting guide from Kawasaki to see if there are any malfunctioning sensors. Just because you get a code doesn't mean a bad sensor. It means that that is an area to do some further troubleshooting.
Again, I would take it to a Kawasaki Dealer and get it diagnosed properly and FREE under warranty (that is, if he hasn't messed with anything).
