Friend had bought a murray with a 1990 281707 with one piece flojet carb last fall. I checked it over and this spring he took it to his apartment building where a tenant would use it to cut grass. I gave my usual advice , use the shut off valve and check oil before every start. So he drops it off last week saying it flooded and crankcase is full of gas. So I go to work on it and wonder what the gray stringy stuff is near the bowl top. I guess someone thought fuel leaking was a bad bowl gasket (and parts of it was) but the gray was from the duct tape that has been lapped over the bowl edge. So I pull bowl and usually float hangs tight enough to hold needle and spring in carb. But float drops and I think I dropped needle and spring. But alas, no , because there is no needle and spring. And the float dropped more because the float pin has been replaced with a piece of wire (smaller diameter than pin), bent only at one end. I'm really hoping that the tenant did this handy work and not my friend.
