trimmer pull string will not budge

Postby cadman33619 » Fri Sep 19, 2014 1:05 pm

I have a ryobi 4 cycle trimmer (S430)... yesterday i tried to start it and the pull string would not budge.

i removed the spark plug (which was very dirty... and had oil on it) then tried the pull string again.... this time it moved in and out with no problem. but when i put the spark plug back in, the string would not move again.

i think i may have gotten oil into the combustion chamber because it was left upside-down.

i've taken it apart to expose the valves and lower part of the piston (drained all the oil)... but i dont see a way to access the combustion chamber in order to clean it out.

has anyone seen this issue?

thanks

You should be able to clear it by pulling with the switch off and the spark plug removed. Once it starts it will smoke for a bit.

hmmm
i've pulled it several times with the plug removed. nothing comes out. and when i put the plug back in...the pull string gives me a hard time to pull. i can pull it... but it stops/gets stuck several times with each pull.

i'll try again

Could be a problem with the ACR mechanism, if it has one. You may wanna go over the valve adjustment/s, too large a gap can render the ACR useless and make it a bear to pull. Could also be a worn /broken valve train component such as a follower, cam, pivot point, pin, etc. Lots of little goodies to break on ya. Is why I don't recommend any 4cycle /4mix type of hand held!

X2 I am also a hard core 2 stroke guy when it comes to handhelds. Much simpler.
