Craftsman snow thrower help

Postby dennis » Wed Dec 11, 2013 10:13 pm

I am working on a 21" Craftsman mod 247.887200 snow thrower. It has a 4 cycle OHV engine (179cc). I do not know the make, suspect it may be Chinese. The number on sticker on the engine is 3N 365-SUB0907164A0162...whew! Gasoline had been left in it since last winter, and it would not run unless choke was 1/2 open. Took carb off and cleaned it, but did not have a kit so could not remove welch plug. Was afraid to remove idle mix screw because I had read that they are made to break off and must be replaced. It is a HUAYI carb, has the following numbers on it.....L-HY-34, 165S. Put it back together and it starts right up but hunts when there is no load. When I engage augur, the hunting diminishes significantly and sometimes stops altogether. I went to Sears site to get parts list so as to get carb kit (or new carb if necessary). They do not even show this model anymore. Does anyone know where a parts list might exist for this snow thrower? Any other suggestions or info on this snow blower or HUAYI carb? Thanks.

The idle circuit is still partially plugged. That is an MTD unit, the engine numbers will give the dealer the info needed to supply a new carb. Forget trying to repair it.

365-SUB would tend to mean it's an MTD Powermore can you verify the craftsman model number? or is that a non-us machine, perhaps? Looks more like you may have added a 0 comes up as 247.88720

generally would need to get a complete carburetor 951-12705 from MTD they don't make kits foe that updated version and the old version 951-10974A had a number of problems.

you might try a static governor adjustment and see if surge goes away since you had the carb off.

I recently worked on one of those,it did exactly the same thing, turned out it was the idle air bleed. The idle speed screw needs to come out to get at it.It just pops out with a screwdriver. The one I worked on was obviously plugged, cleaned it out and it runs like new.Carb set-up is very close to Honda carb

Thanks 38 racing and mwrless. The idle air bleed was dirty. Did static gov adjustment, started it up and it ran fine.
