Mine's 43 years old. 170432-1070-02 71122801

I also tried cleaning the old seat, it didn't last long. Replacing it solved the problem completely.

And just repaired 48 year old Garden tiller back in November and that still newer than I am. I even repaired an over 50 year old chainsaw last year too.

I also have a 50 year old tiller. 100202-401096-6304081 It was my grandfathers.

The old stuff was built solid. Thanks to B&S as well for continuing to supply parts.

Just an update, I got it. It was the seat. I am sure this has been talked about in the past but it is frustrating that the seat doesn't come in the rebuild kit. Also, I found that the Briggs parts breakdown says that the nozzle comes in the kit that I ordered. Mine wasn't included. I called my distributor and questioned it. That no longer comes in the kit, a service bulletin came out in 2011. That would have been nice to know. I guess experience is worth everything. I did get the 1996 update to open on the Power Portal. That was helpful, but, I couldn't have done it without you guys. Hopefully I can return the favor somehow. It will only be after years of experience I guess.

Very nice looking old girl, uh engine. :D I like seeing old engines that have been restored.

Now may I ask could you let us know a little more about it? Some of us like may have not seen one before. I haven't been serious working on small engines other than for myself until 5 years ago so I know I haven't. Some may never get to see one in person if all those scrap metal people keeping taking them to be recycled.

Hmm I'll have to go to the AMEIA (Allegany Mountain Engine & Implement Association) Expo this summer in a neighboring town (Port Allegany, PA) and get some pics of all those old engines ... there's also a massive old hit and miss engine (It's about 7 feet tall, cylinder diameter bigger than my head!) up at Rock City Park in Olean, NY and probably several, along with antique train engines over at the P.A. Lumber Museum at Denton Hill - both within an hour's drive or less of us.. just worked on (last fall) an antique cultivator with a Briggs 6BHS and still have that '53 Farmall Cub sitting in the lot waiting to be picked up.. But , never really get them in here for repairs - unless you count that Briggs 23AR6 sitting in the shop for a conversion to 12V ignition (The Magna-Matic ignition is long obsolete, can't find replacement coil, and they want it converted to use on the old blacktop roller it came off of, built-in gear reduction) :)

That engine is off a Gravely Model L. I rescued the tractor from an excavator which was tearing down a greenhouse that sat empty for at least 25 years.Took two weeks of soaking in ATF and acetone but I got it freed up. The engine shared a lubrication system with the transmission as well as served as the magneto mount. I had plans on making an old motorcycle thingie so that explains the weird mag mount. Still gotta come up with an oil reservoir and some way to cool it since I did away with the fan.
