Working on a real oil burner. 126402-0206-E1-030108FD It fouls the plug in just a few minutes. Compression is 65#, warm. Leakdown showed a leaky exhaust valve, which was because of carbon, no problem there.
The manual says bore it if it's more than .005" oversize. This is about .008". (aluminum bore) I think the real problem is the ring gaps.
Top- .082"
Middle- .045"
Oil- .110"
Spec for compression rings is .035" max, oil ring .045" max.
I didn't measure the side clearance yet. Not sure, I think I need a new ring to measure that? I hope it's not too bad, the piston is NLA.
I generally don't get into this kind of work, but I'm helping someone out. Plus, I like learning stuff that I can use as experience.
I'm thinking that the .008" bore isn't too bad. I'd like to try chrome rings that I've read about on here. The IPL's that I've seen don't list a chrome ring. Is (was) there such a thing? Anyone know the part number or can send me in the right direction to find it?
I may be putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound, but I'd like to give this engine a little more life.
