A couple Briggs cylinder questions

So that I just got this straight in my head. Looking at replacement for a customer that has a 110000 series with Kool Bore per the specs and the 130000 has sleeved bore. IT will cost the more to rebuild his engine than I can sell a new Briggs engine.

Kool Bore is an aluminum cylinder using chromed piston and rings?

And sleeve bore is a steel or cast iron sleeved engine?

You got it regarding the bores. Unless the engine is a special application such as a gear reduction or generator model you can't touch a rebuild for the cost of a new engine. Having said that, all the new engines are ohv and a totally different configuration. They simply won't fit some applications, a rebuild or serious modification to the equipment may be necessary.

I can sell him the 130000 replacement to him for 222.00 retail. He just brought the used 110402 from someone else for 100.00 and he having to pay to have to carburetor reworked

Maybe next time he give me a chance on a new engine. He has paid to have few rebuilt and I asked why didn't consider just a new and he thought they cost more. He wanted to know how I would charge to rebuild his engines. I informed him I needed to see the engine but that I probably could sell him a new one for about same money if not less.

Plus, unless YOU offer 2 year warranty on your rebuild work, they get 2 years (or 3 for Vanguard) warranty on a new engine. (assuming consumer operation)

That has been a good selling point here. I may not offer the best warranty but a three month rebuild warranty here is better than most of the fly by nights around here with their tailgate warranties. As with the engines still having used components there still can be some early failures; although, in the 5 yrs that I have been rebuilding them I haven't seen one come back but the customers do for other work.
