Blowing Oil

Hi all,
Been a long time since I have been on here but it sure is nice to see that old friends are still here. Sorry to hear that Bruce retired but him and his family sure deserved it.
I have a Craftsman 42" rider with a B&S 15 HP, Model # 28N707, type 0121 01, Code 9310114A.
The engine is pumping oil into the breather area from the plate on the side of the engine nearest the carb thru the rubber hose that goes to the breather, (Blowby?). What could be causing that and how do I stop it? It really blows clouds of oil smoke.Thank You for any help and Nevada, it's great to see you are still helping all of us out in times of need.

If it is overhead valve it is likely a blown head gasket.

You can take that breather apart and wash it is gas...you also might have a blown head gasket.
They always blow out right here...
Cost is around ten buck and I can do em in 30 minutes or so. You will have to set the valve lash when done.

Thank You and Yep, it was a blown head gasket.
Bought a head gasket set, torqued down the head then set the valve lash. Purrs like a kitten and no more blowing oil. it did smoke for a little while after I started it but that is normal with all the oil that the muffler and breather took in with the blown head gasket.
If i ever run accross that again I'll sure know where to check first.
