Hoping your number contains a typo.

Gas tank for 1742HS 2000 & 2001 model years is AM121937.

dont think 17542hs is a typo. the guy looked and that is what he gave for the model # your part number there is it the type that goes under the seat with the fill tube coming out of the metal of rear of tractor? tried looking but not to much luck but did come across this part # gy21876 on this site www.green part store.com. best i can remember it looks like it. but now that i seen your pic i aint real sure. not to sure of year of make on it.

doesnt really matter - you need the full serial VIN number anyway for a correct parts lookup -it will include the model number too sort of like: M038X00*********** (the * being serial) - that can tell you all the difference between 2 similar models but *completely different* machines. (not to mention a machine that had a used hood put on it with wrong model number!)
the guy looked and that is what he gave for the model # your part number there is it the type that goes under the seat with the fill tube coming out of the metal of rear of tractor?
Nah appears to be the type that bolts up to the steering console - which is common to LT models.. gas tank mounted under seat seems more common to the YT and GT models.. but I'm no deere expert by any means...

greenpartstore.com as well as greenfarmparts.com both have JD parts lookups on their websites, as well as JD's own parts lookup (I like theirs - meaning JD's - better than that convoluted pile of crap offered by ARI used on those parts websites, both of whom Ive bought from before - both excellent.)

Luffy, Thanks for the additional info and your patience with me. Most of the Sabre I see here have four numbers in the model number. Your right the GY21876 is listed as the replacement tank. The tank I showed for mounting under the hood and not the seat so it would be the wrong tank.

I did find the 17.542HS. The decimal was missing from the model number. I did a search using just "Sabre" on the JD parts lookup looked through the list of various models.

The original tank is NLA but JD is using listing the GY21876 as a replacement tank, doesn't means it will necessarily fit. I linking a picture and blog article on this.

he decided to wait until he got the yard mowed to shut it down long enough to see if it could be repaired or if it needs to be replaced. told him rather to replace than repaired just of all the just becauses. told him if i thought it could be done safely ok but if not replace. i am a fix it guy not a rigging guy to get you back in the shop for your money. some people just want you to just fix it to get it by but for most jobs i do it right and safely or i just wont do it and tell them the next is just down the road. lol thanks for checking and i will get back to ya when i get it here. thanks again
