Wont Turn Over When Using Key

Ok , After applying power to thread terminal post solonoid starter spins, clutch pedal starter spins also, reverse switch also but had to swap it with clutch switch to get it to spin the starter, PTO switch starter spins when blades are disengaged, PTO switch starter wont spin when blades are engages all is the plunger on the fuel solonoid and all I got was sparks on the seat switch. I have 12v on the key switch. Even tried a new key switch and got nothing. The solonoid ground is clean and tight. Same with the ground on the frame where the reverse switch is. No power no voltage nothing on the wire that hooks to the terminal on the solonoid. So its the PTO switch that bad on blade engage side?

Run a wire from the switch to the solenoid and forget it. Never needed those safeties when we were kids anyway.

So your telling me the PTO switch is bad then? The PTO switch sparked at but it had very low voltage when the blade lever was engaged.

The reverse switch and seat switch normally have nothing to do with the cranking circuit , just the spark cycle. by applying 12v to them you may have fried your coil.when testing clutch and pto they should be in normal start position with wires connected. if it cranks when voltage is applied to either side terminal you know the switches are working ok. remember the pto has two switches. only test the cranking switch. and some units have two on the clutch . again just test the cranking one. have you put your test jumper on the s terminal of the keyswitch connector? when you tried new switch did you confirm that the terminal positions were the same as the old ones.

Dave, It is very apparent that you are way over your head on this one. Please for yours and ours sanity take it to someone that knows at least basic electrical troubleshooting like someone at a local technical school. When I was in tech school we used things like this for training with an instructor supervising us and most time it only the owner only that parts needed.

The new switch was Murray OEM part number 1001993MA same as the old one triangle shaped layout for the terminals. PTO switch is a 4 terminal switch engine cranks on the oranges wires. Yes the engine cranks when putting the test jumper on S terminal on the key switch.

Remove connector from the keyswitch. check the b terminal for voltage . should have 12v. On the switch check for continuity between the b and s terminals when key put to start. got to be one of those failing if you got cranking when 12v jumped to s tab of the plug

Thanks to everyone for your help. This mower is no longer my problem. The person came and got it today. I was trying to do favor for someone by trying to fix it.
