Compression

I am checking compression on a Briggs model# 204312 type 0171B1 1450 Engine Series OHV 305cc on a Husky 5000 Watt Generator. What should the compression be?

Minimum 60 PSi , up to maybe 110, if it is too much higher , compression release may not be working, which is common on OHV engines that have not had good maintenance - valve clearances need checked and set. So far this spring, have had a couple dozen Briggs OHV engines with hard crank hard start and 8 out of every 10 of them fixed by valve adjustment.

The "max range" you might see on an engine that at least runs, may be as low as 50 PSI , as high as 180 PSI - either extreme, they gonna be hard to get started. about 80 PSI is what we consider the "sweet spot"
