Smoke b&s 17.5 twin 2

B&S 42a707-2238-ei

Tried to start the other day, cranked, won't not turn over. Checked the oil, full of gas. Pulled apart the carb, cleaned it out, put it back together. The gas leak has stopped for now.

Cranked it, started right up. Lot of smoke. Low to full throttle, lot more smoke. See youtube link below.

I was think it is a head gasket issue. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Change oil; hopefully you have already done this. The overfill block will cause the engine to smoke heavy when first started after repair as oil will be in the muffler and need to burn off. May take 5 to 10 minutes for this to be done as these engine usually have a large muffler. Then if the smoke don't reduce after this then you may have a blown head gasket or bad rings.

Changed the oil.

I ran it for 5 min, throttle low too high, mower blade on and off. After 5 min, still burning lots go oil. Heavy clouds of smoke on throttle up.

I'll run it tomorrow for a bit to see if it burns off. Then pull the heads.

Thanks

If it was ok the last time you used it, I doubt the head gaskets are bad,run it at full throttle to heat the muffler and it may take ten or more minutes to clear the muffler of the oil

Burnt out all the residual oil. Still smokes when I rev it up but stops shortly after. Might have a small leak somewhere. I am going to leave it for now and see if it gets worse. Thanks for the comments.
