Jd 212 brake band replacement

Postby racsan » Thu Jun 12, 2014 3:27 pm

Hello, i have a 77 jd 212 garden tractor, 12hp kohler. The brake lining is missing from the brake band, i waited a month for a new brake band from john deere, gave up and got some lining from ebay. What can i use to attach the lining to the band? Id think rivits would be best, but dad suggested jb weld. What will work? Thanks.

I would use an epoxy such as EPOXO-88, which is a pretty flexible/flowable two part epoxy. I use that chit on everything! If yer gonna glue it , be sure and rough up and clean the surfaces.
Riveting will work also, but gluin' is easier.

If you rivet it, you would have to come up with some way to countersink the heads. I'm not real convinced that JB Weld is that good of an adhesive.

Brass flat head rivets would also be advisable if you go with that method. Steel rivets will score the brake drum when the lining wears down.
