Pioneer 1074 chainsaw decompression valve

Postby 56Chevy » Wed Aug 06, 2014 5:14 pm

Have a Pioneer chainsaw 1074-SH, serial 433 409734. It's hard to pull and often will jerk the rope out of your hand. D/L a manual. I took the cover off and find the decompression lever is missing along with the small clamp. Any hope of fashioning one from a steel wire? I highly doubt the parts will be available anywhere. Any suggestions? If someone has one could they take a picture or two and maybe give some measurements? That would be of great help. I will try to work with what I've got for now. It wouldn't be so difficult if a person could see what's going on inside when the cover is in place!!

Not sure how to attach pictures.

The service manual is: Pioneer Service Manual 1074 P26E P28E & ES.pdf. Page 13 shows what is missing.

Thanks

Thanks.

I came up with a simple temporary solution. Drilled a small hole in the plastic shroud right over the decompression plunger. Took a thin welding rod about 2 1/2 inches long, bent a 90 deg angle at one end 3/4 inch long approx. Made an eye in the opposite end for a machine crew. Mounted this on the outside of the shroud so the angle piece extends through the hole. There is just enough curve on the shroud to push on the wire at the 90 deg. bend and force open the decompression valve. Little awkward as you have to set the saw on the ground and hold it down with your knee. depress the wire, pull the rope and presto.

Tried bending a few wires for the inside like the picture shows but that became tedious so I gave up on that idea.
