Jonsrud 52 fuel leak issue

Postby jwales » Thu Jul 31, 2014 8:06 am

Tree trimming with a Jonsrud 52 chainsaw and when I was reaching high I was getting drips of gas on my throttle hand. Saw ran fine.
Took a look at the carb. seems to be fine. no fuel line leak but it appears that (maybe a previous repair person) a fuel line was replaced (taqnk to carb) and the opening to the fuel tank was larger than the fuel line and it appears they used some type of sealer/glue/compound to prevent leaking. It worked for awhile  . Wondering if there is a grommet or washer that should be used in this application?? I also did not think there was a product that would seal when in contact with gasoline?? Any thoughts on how to correct appreciated.
Thanks

Wow. thats an old beast :)

used to have a Jonsered 90 which was a similar design, fuel line was a "tight fit" through the tank, no grommet. Probably needs a correctly sized fuel line which can be difficult to find.

Best thing to do, would be to drain the tank, pop the fuel line out/off, and take the saw down to yer local shop to see if they got the correct size hose. No shop? then ya just have to measure the existing line and step it up a notch. You might check out this place :http://www.arboristsite.com/community/forums/chainsaw.9/ Somebody there prolly knows the correct size.

BTW, a product called Seal All http://eclecticproducts.com/sealall.htm works really well. Have not used it on a hose yet, but I've used it on /in carbs and tanks with great results. It's still holding up on a crack in a poly tank where the outlet nipple meets the bottom.

Hey Deer
Did you order from the company or get it thru a retailer? (Seal-all)
I have a similar problem.

I read that it was produced from 1971 to 1985. It still runs great and cuts well. I also have a Jonsrud 49sp that my dad had bought new. Looks almost identical to the 52 and it cuts like crazy as well.

Thanks for all the good info. I did have some larger diameter fuel line laying around that took some work to feed through the hole so far it seems to be working. I need to get some of that seal all as well. have had a couple mower gas tanks that got replaced with new or used ones cause I did not think there was a repair.
Thanks again

On poly tanks, just scuff up the repair area with some sandpaper to give it some "tooth".
You can also get a plastic "welding " kit at H.F., but I just use the seal-all.
