I have a Honda GCV190 on a Simpson pressure washer that came in last week for the engine lower oil seal torn up. I replaced the seal and reinstalled the pressure pump and test ran it. Inspecting for leaks with the engine at idle I noticed the key working its way up the key channel in the key way to the crank! A few seconds more and it would have torn up the new oil seal! Removed pump, I took a punch and put a few dents in the key, reinstalled the key and had to use a light hammer to tap in into position. Reinstalled pump with SAME result! I'm looking for ideas...Thanks to all.
Stake/dent the crank KEYWAY to stop it from walking out, not the key!
You could also stake the keyway at the pump bore, but you would have to then insert the key in the bore behind the staking and mke sure it stays in place with a dab of heavy grease, pia.
EDIT: Something ain't right! I haven't worked on a lot of P.W.s pump-wise, but I've never ran into that problem before! Sounds like the KEY is way too short! Just get a longer key.
Could also be the crank isn't entering the pump bore deep enough.
If yer dealing with a flex coupling setup,( not likely, right) then ya gotta tighten the set screw!
