Husq. 350 chainsaw ID part in pic please

Postby snowmanhat » Mon Sep 15, 2014 9:14 am

Hi,

As a follow up to my prior post, can anyone tell me where the part in the following picture belongs on my Husq. 350 chainsaw, '18 approximate year 2000.

Thank you very much - it fell out and I have been running the saw without - I am afraid I will damage something. I just cant figure out where it belongs on the saw.

Thanks again,

Well, for sure, it is a locating pin -

there's 2 possibilities I can think of - It came out of your chain brake (Does your chain brake work properly?)
Or, it is a locating pin for the crankcase halves that worked its way out. (I'd be looking for oil leaks) But that is unlikely as crankcase locating pin would not have that staked ridge in it. I am betting it is part of the (or *A* ) Chain brake assembly. Its the only place I know of that they used pins like that - other than in the throttle (but those would not have fallen into clutch area)

Thank you for your help - no oil leak and engine runs with good compression and no pressure leaks. As you mentioned, I was hoping it had something to do with the chain brake but I disassembles the brake and nothing was missing.

Strange - I did a google search on this "pin fallen out of husqvarna chain saw" and someone else had the exact same pin drop out during operation and no one was able to ID it either. I even went through all the part breakdowns for this saw and not one of the diagrams showed this pin.

Thanks again for your help

First 2 or 4 digits of the serial number is manufacture year depending year made.

Second look at the following IPL on PDF page 12 and you should see the pin.

He's already said that ain't the pin - His pictured one is way too big to be that - Ive had them apart before and know what you mean, but his pin is more like 1/8" diameter and an inch long, while that little oiler pump pin is closer to a 3/32" and about 1/2" long - again I do believe the pin in his pic is a piece of the crankcase or chain brake cover assembly - and it isn't in the parts list because it isn't a serviceable part. If you get one of those chain brake covers and take all the replaceable parts out of it and lay them out, you will probably find that pin in there somewhere, but it isn't supposed to come out... I think it is the pin where the chain brake mechanism rides on or under - it goes through the side cover in the chain brake mechanism area.. but I havent had one apart in a long time, so I can't recall exactly where it is at.. but I have seen them... , but It's simply too big to be that oiler pump adjuster stop pin..

Thanks for all the responses. I will take apart the chain break in more detail than before and if nothing is found I will look for crank case areas where it might be missing.

Thanks again,

Hmm, Didn't see where he said actually check for the pin in that location. I got an order going in this week for some Husky parts and I add that pin to my order so I can measure it here but that will take at least a week to get here. The only other pin I know of that could be serrated in the middle is the throttle lever pin but the last one I had out was smooth all the way. The throttle pin is 3mm x 25mm. The rest of the pins are serrated on the ends that I have removed.

I haven't had 300 series in the shop in over a year and it was for a carburetor rebuild. Most of what I get in the shop lately is the 400 series.

Now I got to get the Auto Tune software as they getting old enough for them to start showing up here too.
