gas trimmer stop button not working

Postby cadman33619 » Fri Nov 14, 2014 9:02 am

I have a ryobi S430 gas trimmer.... the stop button is not shutting off the engine. i replaced the stop button easy enough but that did not solve the issue. it still will not turn off using the button. is there some other issue that could be causing it not to shut off?

the unit runs and works great, otherwise

thanks

Is the switch you replaced? Does it have one or two wires connecting to it?

Visiting the same store Okie; which aisle were you on? :)

Ryobi S430 (RY34440) Two wire harness ignition kill harness.

Yes there is a few other things to check.

Check your switch wiring harness for breaks or poor grounding.

It also can be a bad ignition coil. You can test this by using a temporary kill wire attached to the coil and ground it the cylinder or muffler. If it kills engine the then coil is okay otherwise you have a bad coil.

Just had this same problem with a Husqvarna 125B blower. The woman who owns it, said that she couldn't shut it off and had to let it run out of gas! For her next client, she tried to put only enough gas in it to get the job done!

Finally, she brought it to me. After doing a continuity test on the switch and finding it working just fine, I examined the wires leading to the ignition coil. What I found was, right were the female spade connector plugged into the ignition coil, the wire had broken. I stripped the wire, crimped on a new terminal and all is working well again.
