A little help on a Husqvarna trimmer 128L please?

Postby dart451 » Sun Nov 23, 2014 4:30 pm

I usually don't work on 2 strokes so I have no books on them. I acquired a 128L Husqvarna with only two pieces of hose stuck on the carb. The rest of the hoses and filter were in pieces in the tank along with what appears to be a coupler of some type. So, I know it needs new hoses/filter but I'm not entirely sure which hoses go where. And I have no clue where the little coupler goes! Here are some pics...

Okay the line closest to primer should be the fuel return line connection.

The line adapter goes inside the tank on the end of the return line. and the line and the adapter are pull tight against the inside of the tank.

Of course the fuel filter goes on the pickup line. Leave enough line in the tank so the filter can move from side to side as the operator changes position.

It petty well doesn't matter which line goes into which hole as it looks like they are the same size as long they have a good tight fit. If one is smaller then that is for your fuel pickup line.

Lines are easily installed from inside the tank via the fuel cap opening using tag wire or similar item. Here is a pic of the setup for this that I use. Once the lines are in place square cut the ends.

The wire method is a slick trick! I have also had good luck with a lo-o-o-ng nose pair of hemostats purchase at the Freight. With the sharpened tubing end as KE4AVB illustrated, you can hold the tube in place exiting the tank hole with your left hand and grab hold and pull with your right. Also good for fetching the pieces out of the tank and when changing out the in tank filters. MH

Thank you so much for the info and the nifty idea to get the lines in the tank! Ok, so the line closest to the primer is the fuel return line and the adapter goes on the end of the tube how far into the tank? Near the top or to the bottom of the tank? Is it a one way valve of some kind? The lower hose should be the fuel intake with plenty of hose w/filter in the tank...

This is just crude drawing but the light green with the blue blob (fitting) at the end would the return line. See how it is pulled up the side of the tank; right next to where the line enters the tank. The fitting serves two purposes. One is to keep the line from coming out the tank and the other is it acts as flow restricter but it is not a check valve.

Your one way check valves are in the carburetor. One set is the fuel pump diaphragm not to be confused with the metering diaphragm and other set is in the primer assembly.

Thank you Sir! Perfectly clear. That's kinda what I thought you meant in the beginning but just wanted to make sure I didn't mess up...thanks again!

K,

I'll have to try that. Have the wire from a Ryobi replacement kit from the Depot, works sometimes.

thanks,

As you probably already found out not all tools are 100 effective but I have had fairly good success rate with this method especially those tanks where you can't any ridge tool into place. The wire does tear out sometimes but I expect that why I mark my line length and don't cut to length until I know the line is feeding through so I can adjust the length if needed. The sometimes tear out It due to way the line is being pulled just got to make sure the leading edge of the tapered line get started first before pulling is increased.
